As the federal agency that oversees the business of the federal government, it is the GSA's role to oversee the acquisition of equipment for federal agencies, including communications solutions used by those agencies. Open Standards
Many governmental agencies are required to purchase equipment that is open-standards compliant. This because products that adhere to open standards typically offer higher levels of interoperability and customer choice than products based on proprietary protocols do.

This is because open-standards-based products typically offer higher levels of interoperability and customer choice than proprietary products do. As a result of these benefits, an increasing number of U.S. governmental agencies are required to purchase equipment that is P25 open-standards compliant.
